Cherrybrook Light Installation, Done Properly
New downlights, a statement pendant, or an outdoor run along the deck.
Cherrybrook homes ask for all three, and a licensed electrician handles the wiring behind each one. Call (02) 9134 9024 for a fixed quote.
What We Handle Under Light Installation
Lighting work covers more than swapping a bulb. Here's what typically comes under this service.
- Downlights: new points added, old halogens converted to LED, and the ceiling patched properly.
- Pendants and feature fittings: wired to a dedicated switch, positioned exactly where you want them.
- Outdoor and garden lighting: weatherproof fittings rated for exposed runs, wired back to the board.
- Dimmers and smart switching: compatible dimmers matched to the fitting, not guessed at.
- Security and sensor lighting: motion-triggered floodlights wired in as a separate circuit where needed.
- Old fitting removal: dated fittings taken down and disposed of, not left for you to deal with.
- Ceiling patching around new points: cut-outs finished neatly so there's no obvious sign a new downlight went in.
We fit Beacon Lighting and SAL as standard, though we're happy to install fittings you've sourced yourself.
Beacon and SAL both build for the Australian market, so the fittings are rated for our climate and easy to service years down the track if a globe or driver ever needs replacing.

How to Tell You Need Light Installation
A handful of situations mean it's genuinely time for this job.
- Flickering or buzzing lights that a globe swap hasn't fixed
- Dated halogen downlights running hot and pushing up the power bill
- A renovation or extension with no lighting plan wired in yet
- Dark corners of the yard or driveway with no outdoor lighting at all
- Switches that no longer match the room they were wired for
- A pendant or feature light you've bought but can't legally wire in yourself
- Switching that's confusing to guests, with no logical link between switch and fitting
Flickering that persists after a fresh globe often points to a loose connection, not a faulty fitting.
Any of these on their own is worth a call. A house with several at once usually means the wiring behind the switches is overdue for a proper look, not just the fittings.

What Your Light Installation Quote Depends On
Several things shift the price on a lighting job, and we're upfront about each before quoting.
- Number of points and how far apart they're spread
- Ceiling access, particularly in additions with limited roof space
- Whether old fittings need removing and disposing of first
- Fitting type: standard downlights versus pendants, dimmers or outdoor runs
- Any circuit or switchboard capacity checks the job uncovers along the way
Cherrybrook's newer townhouse pockets sometimes run tighter roof cavities than the older detached blocks, which can add time to a downlight job if the access is limited.
You get a written figure that holds, not a phone estimate that shifts once the ladder's out. Ask about $50 off if it's your first job with us.

What We See in Cherrybrook Homes
Cherrybrook is a mix of large brick-veneer houses from the 1980s and 90s build-out and a smaller run of newer townhouses.
The older houses generally have generous roof cavities, which makes downlight retrofits straightforward once the original halogens come out.
Purchase Road has plenty of houses from that era still running the original fittings. Swapping them for LED is usually the single biggest lighting upgrade a homeowner makes in one visit.
The newer townhouses tell a different story. Compact roof spaces mean fewer downlight points fit comfortably, so we're often talking through fitting placement and dimmer zoning more than in an older house with room to spare.

The Rules That Apply in NSW
Anything hardwired back to the board is licensed electrical work, and that includes downlights, pendants and hardwired outdoor fittings. DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW, even for something that looks as simple as a light fitting.
Outdoor and wet-area fittings need the correct IP rating for where they're installed. We match the fitting to the location, not the other way around.
Larger lighting jobs, particularly ones that touch the switchboard or add new circuits, are notifiable work. A Certificate of Compliance is lodged once everything's tested.
A safety switch (RCD) should already be covering the lighting circuit in a compliant home. If it isn't, we'll flag it rather than quietly work around it.

Our Light Installation Process, Start to Finish
- Quote and plan. We confirm fitting positions, count points, and give a fixed price.
- Isolate the circuit. Only the circuit being worked on loses power, not the whole house.
- Cut, run and mount. Cabling run to each point, fittings mounted and connected.
- Install and connect. Switches and dimmers wired in and matched to their fittings.
- Test and hand over. Every light checked, dimmers matched, and paperwork provided where notifiable.
Most straightforward downlight jobs are wrapped in a few hours. A full-house LED conversion or a new outdoor lighting run takes longer, and we'll confirm that on the quote, not on the day.

Why This Is a Job for Our Team
A lighting job looks simple until a dimmer's mismatched to the fitting or a downlight goes in right on top of a ceiling joist. Getting it right the first time matters more than it looks.
Every fitting we install carries a lifetime workmanship guarantee, and we clean up before we go. Drop sheets down, offcuts and old fittings gone, no trace we were there beyond the new lights working properly.
If a fitting ever plays up down the track and it's our workmanship at fault, we come back and fix it at no cost. That's not a small print clause, it's how the guarantee actually works.

Servicing Cherrybrook and the Suburbs Around It
Light installation is one of our most requested jobs across Cherrybrook, Castle Hill, Glenhaven and Thornleigh, and Baulkham Hills and Kellyville homeowners keep us just as busy with it.
It's commonly booked alongside switchboard upgrades, since older boards sometimes need extra capacity checked before new circuits go in.
Weekend lighting bookings fill fast in this part of the Hills District, so weekday slots tend to be the quicker path to a firm date if timing matters more than the day of the week.

Common questions
Your Light Installation FAQs
Common questions Cherrybrook homeowners ask before booking a lighting job.
How long does light installation take?
A handful of downlights is usually a couple of hours. A whole-house LED upgrade or a new outdoor run takes longer, and we'll give you a time estimate with the quote.
How long does the power stay off during light installation?
Only while the circuit being worked on is isolated, usually well under an hour at a time. The rest of the house stays powered.
Who supplies the parts, you or me?
Either works. We supply Beacon Lighting and SAL fittings as standard, or we're happy to fit something you've already bought, provided it's compliant.
What do you need from me on the day?
Clear access to the areas being worked on and a decision on fitting positions if you haven't marked them. We handle the rest.
Do I need a licensed electrician for light installation?
Yes. Anything wired into the switchboard is licensed work in NSW, including downlights and hardwired pendants. Plug-in lamps are the exception.
What does light installation usually cost?
It depends on the number of points, ceiling access and whether old fittings need removing first. We give a fixed written quote before anything is switched off.
